Description

Sketch of a French-Canadian soldier, 1944.

Often forgotten, even by their own country, French-Canadian volunteers joined the mostly English-speaking Canadian army. They wanted to save their French cousins from the Nazi oppression, to prevent the enemy of attacking their homeland and, most of all, to fulfill a taste for adventure.

Most "Canayens" weren't too enthusiastic about taking part in a war declared by the British. Deserters and opposers to the conscription were the real heroes for them, forgetting the sacrifice of these men fighting with just as much courage and determination as any of their Allied counterparts.

I might make a better drawing of my province's soldiers.
